Wyoming was admitted to the Union on July 10, 1890, as the 44th state. Wyoming's constitution, like its territorial laws, guaranteed women the right to vote, making it the first state to include women's suffrage in its founding document. Statehood came to a territory that had built an economy on cattle ranching, mining, and cross-country rail travel.
