Boise grew steadily through the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to become Idaho's largest city and the center of its government and commerce. Its location in the Treasure Valley, with access to irrigation water, supported agricultural development that made the surrounding region one of the most productive in the West. Boise continues to serve as Idaho's political and economic hub.
