The Wyoming Territory granted women the right to vote in December 1869, becoming the first government in the world to grant women full suffrage rights. Wyoming also appointed the first female justice of the peace and had the first all-female jury in American history. Wyoming's early commitment to women's political rights earned it the nickname the Equality State.
