Lewis and Clark Reach Pacific

In November 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition reached the Pacific Ocean in what is now Washington State, completing their transcontinental journey. The Corps of Discovery spent the winter at Fort Clatsop before beginning their return east. Their accounts of the Pacific Northwest's resources and landscapes sparked American interest in the region.
