Langley Research Center

The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics established Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, in 1917, creating the nation's first aeronautical research laboratory. Langley scientists made fundamental contributions to aircraft design, wind tunnel testing, and eventually spacecraft development. The center became one of the birthplaces of American aviation and aerospace technology.
