Petroglyph National Monument, protecting thousands of ancient rock carvings on the West Mesa of Albuquerque, was expanded and developed in the late 1990s to better preserve and interpret the region's Indigenous heritage. The petroglyphs represent thousands of years of human presence in the Rio Grande valley. The monument connects modern New Mexicans to the deep history of the people who came before them.
