The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta began in 1972 and grew into the largest hot air balloon event in the world. Hundreds of balloons from across the country and around the globe gather each October over the Rio Grande. The festival celebrates New Mexico's clear skies and open landscapes while attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors.
