Adams-Onís Treaty

The Adams-Onís Treaty of 1819 transferred Florida from Spain to the United States, resolving long-standing border disputes in the Southeast. The agreement gave the young nation control over the entire Florida peninsula and established a clear boundary with Spanish territories to the west. Florida formally became a U.S. territory the following year.
