Wartime Shipbuilding and Aircraft

Washington's shipyards and aircraft factories operated at maximum capacity during World War II, building warships and military aircraft that helped win the war in the Pacific. The Hanford Site in eastern Washington produced plutonium for the Manhattan Project. Washington's wartime industrial contribution was among the most significant of any state.
