In February 1960, students from Nashville's Black colleges launched a disciplined and highly organized sit-in campaign against segregated lunch counters. The Nashville sit-ins were among the most successful of the early Civil Rights campaigns, resulting in the desegregation of downtown Nashville's lunch counters. The Nashville movement produced leaders who shaped the Civil Rights Movement nationally.
