The Battle of Shiloh, fought in April 1862 in southwestern Tennessee, was one of the bloodiest engagements of the Civil War. The two-day battle resulted in enormous casualties on both sides before Union forces under Grant secured a costly victory. Shiloh National Military Park preserves the ground where this pivotal battle was fought.
