Tennessee Statehood

Tennessee was admitted to the Union on June 1, 1796, as the 16th state. Settlement of the eastern and central portions of the territory had grown rapidly following the American Revolution. Tennessee's statehood reflected the ambition and determination of settlers who had crossed the mountains to build new lives on the frontier.
