John Glenn Orbits Earth

On February 20, 1962, John Glenn of New Concord, Ohio, became the first American to orbit the Earth, completing three circuits in his Friendship 7 capsule. Glenn's flight restored American confidence in the space race and made him a national hero. He later served as a U.S. Senator from Ohio and returned to space in 1998 at the age of 77.
