Ohio Statehood

Ohio became the 17th state in the Union on March 1, 1803. Its position along the Ohio River made it a gateway to the interior of the continent, and settlement had grown rapidly in the years following the American Revolution. Ohio's admission established a pattern for the admission of new states from the Northwest Territory.
