On February 1, 1960, four Black college students sat down at a segregated Woolworth's lunch counter in Greensboro and refused to leave when denied service. The Greensboro sit-ins sparked a wave of similar protests across the South and became one of the defining actions of the Civil Rights Movement. The Woolworth building is now home to the International Civil Rights Center and Museum.
