Emmett Till Murder

In August 1955, fourteen-year-old Emmett Till was murdered in the Mississippi Delta. His mother's decision to hold an open-casket funeral brought national and international attention to racial violence in Mississippi. Till's death became a catalyst for the Civil Rights Movement and remains one of the most painful and consequential events in American history.
