Twin Cities Milling Industry

Minneapolis grew into the flour milling capital of the world during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, powered by the falls of the Mississippi River and surrounded by the wheat fields of the northern plains. The milling industry brought prosperity and population growth to the Twin Cities. Companies like Pillsbury and General Mills had their roots in Minneapolis's milling era.
