Hurricane Katrina

In August 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast and overwhelmed the levee system protecting New Orleans, flooding much of the city. More than 1,800 people died across the region, and hundreds of thousands were displaced. Katrina exposed deep vulnerabilities in infrastructure and emergency management, prompting years of recovery and rebuilding.
