Daniel Boone's explorations of Kentucky through the 1770s and beyond helped open the trans-Appalachian frontier to American settlement. Boone blazed the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap and founded Boonesborough, one of the first American settlements in Kentucky. His name became synonymous with the spirit of exploration and frontier independence.
