250 Years · 50 States · One Historic Milestone
Kentucky became the 15th state in the Union on June 1, 1792, the first state admitted west of the Appalachian Mountains. Its rivers, fertile soil, and natural resources attracted settlers who built farms, towns, and trading communities. Statehood marked Kentucky's transition from a frontier district of Virginia into a fully recognized member of the American republic.
