Dust Bowl

Kansas was among the states hardest hit by the Dust Bowl of the 1930s, when years of drought and poor farming practices stripped the topsoil from millions of acres. Families abandoned farms and communities as the land became unworkable. The Dust Bowl left a deep mark on Kansas and prompted sweeping changes in federal farm and conservation policy.
