Mariel Boatlift

In 1980, the Mariel Boatlift brought approximately 125,000 Cuban refugees to Florida in a matter of months, one of the largest mass migrations in the state's history. The influx transformed South Florida's demographics and cultural landscape. The Mariel generation contributed to the growth of Miami as a major international city.
