Pikes Peak Expedition

In 1806, U.S. Army explorer Zebulon Pike led an expedition into the Rocky Mountains and attempted to climb the peak that would later bear his name. Though he failed to reach the summit, his accounts drew national attention to the Colorado Rockies. Pikes Peak became one of the most recognized landmarks in the American West.
