During the latter half of the twentieth century, the Navajo Nation expanded its institutions, educational programs, and economic initiatives. Community leaders worked to preserve traditions while addressing the needs of a growing population. The Navajo Nation continues to be an important cultural and governmental presence in Arizona and the broader Southwest.
